In 2012 the Home Office abolished the Tier 1 Post-Study Work visa. This was a visa that enabled international students who had successfully graduated in the UK to stay on in the UK for two years and seek work, and work if they could find it.
It was supposed to act as a “bridge” between studying and working.
But the then Home Secretary Theresa May was not very keen on it and thus it was abolished. Theresa May has come and gone as both Home Secretary and Prime Minister and now we have a new Prime Minister (Boris Johnson) and a new Home Secretary (Priti Patel).
It was widely suspected that Boris Johnson was more liberal in his approach to immigration than his predecessor and now we have the proof. The Home Office has announced that some time in 2020 a new two-year post-study work visa will be introduced – but it will presumably have a different name.
This will somewhat transform the immigration landscape for Tier 4 students and will give them a much better chance of finding a job after graduation. At present they are in most cases limited to staying in the UK for just four months after graduation.
At Get UK Visa we have extensive experience of the old Tier 1 Post-Study Work visa and we also have extensive experience of Tier 4 Student visa applications. We can help you with your study and work aspirations.

It is too early to assess the Start-Up and Innovator visas. Both these visas require endorsement from private bodies, not from the Home Office, […]
