As a married or unmarried partner of an EEA national or British citizen, you are entitled to UK residency…
• If your partner is a European national living in the UK, you can apply to join them and obtain a 5 year residence visa to live and work in the UK. Once you have completed 5 years, you may be eligible to apply for permanent residence in the UK. You will need this if you wish to naturalise as a British citizen.
• If your spouse is a British citizen, you can apply to join them and obtain a settlement visa. After 5 years, you may be eligible to apply for indefinite leave to remain. This will allow you to reside in the UK permanently without any visa restrictions.
