As we all know, European free movement will finish on 31 December 2020, and after that date EEA nationals will be treated the same as everybody else.
The points-based system will carry on but its nomenclature will be changed somewhat. The Tier 2 scheme will be renamed the “Skilled Workers” scheme and the Tier 4 scheme has since October 2020 been renamed the “Student” scheme.
But the Tier 5 Temporary Worker scheme will carry on as before, with no changes in terminology, and the Tier 5 Government Authorised Exchange Internship visa will be much the same as previously.
It seems that this visa is not a great deal known about – either with migrants or employers – but it can be a very good way for a migrant to acquire useful work experience in the UK.
A migrant can apply from either within the UK or from outside the UK for a visa for up to 12 months, if they have managed to find a UK-based employer who wants to offer them an internship – ie a position where you “learn on the job”.
In many cases a student who has graduated in the UK applies to switch their visa to a Tier 5 internship visa, but it is also possible for a suitable migrant (not necessarily a recent graduate) to apply from outside the UK.
Unlike with the Tier 2/Skilled Worker scheme, the employer does not have to sponsor the migrant: the sponsorship is done by a separate sponsoring body, so things are relatively easy for the employer. There is no English language test, and the migrant may bring family members with them.
And, under the new rules starting next year, Tier 5 internship migrants will be able to switch in-country to a Skilled Worker visa if they have been offered a suitable position. This is a new rule and it will make life a lot easier for some.
Tier 5 does not by itself offer a route to settlement, but it can in conjunction with other visas provide a route to settlement via long residence and it can in any case facilitate a route towards Tier 2/Skilled Worker status, which does.
It may be worth your while exploring this visa, especially from 2021. From then on it will provide increased options for finding work and a suitable immigration route in the UK.
We at Get UK Visa will be able to help you with this.

The Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) is a charge that has to be paid by many visa applicants in addition to the visa application fee, but those in some categories (eg visitors, refugees, EEA nationals, settlement applicants) do not have to pay it. The money goes towards the National Health Service, and is justified by the […]

There will be a new points-based system, which will cover both working routes and study routes. The Home Office has now provided details about the new study route, which opened on […]

I highly recommend GET the UK Visa, I've selected them for my ILR application as a British Spouse. In the beginning, I was a little bit sceptical and scared. I was coming from an agency where the solicitor did not know anything about the new digital rules, and I was freaking out every time I was talking to this lady. (At that time the digital application was new for me because I made my previous applications in an analogue way and with no solicitor help). Adel and all the team were extremely patient; they listened to us and gave us all the confidence and knowledge to understand all the new digital process. He's been all the time next to us, answering all the questions and doubts. Even if I was having over and over again the same needs and doubts, he was always there. I had our Residency approved on the same day Application. We decided, with no doubt, that he was also going to help us with my citizenship, which I've applied on the 22nd of February 2020. Due to Covid-19, he received my approval letter at the beginning of August 2020. The real date of the approval was the 24th of March 2020. So it means that thanks to Adel, the Home Office approved my citizenship a month after my application!!!!! Thank you very much to Adel and all the team!!
