If you’re between the ages of 4 and 17 and eager to pursue education at an independent school in the UK, the Child Student Visa is the gateway for you. Here’s a breakdown to help you navigate the application process:
Here are the essential requirements and necessary documents for applying for a UK Child Student visa. It’s crucial to understand that this list of documents and requirements isn’t exhaustive. Depending on your unique circumstances, you might need to furnish additional documents or meet different criteria.
- Possess an unconditional offer from an independent school.
- Demonstrate financial capability to cover living expenses and course fees.
- Obtain consent from your parent or guardian, which is crucial during the application.
Note: If you’re 18 or older, consider applying for a Student Visa instead, as the Child Student Visa specifically caters to the 4 to 17 age group.
Duration of Stay:
- The length of stay depends on your age at the time of application and the course duration.
- Age at Application:
- Under 16: Course length (up to 6 years) plus 4 months afterward.
- 16 or 17: Course length (up to 3 years) plus 4 months afterward.
- Financial Requirements:
- Vary based on living arrangements:
- With parent/guardian: Cover course fees and £1,560 per month x 9 = £14,040
- Boarding at an independent school: Cover both course and boarding fees.
- With foster carer/close relative: Cover course fees and prove £570 per month for up to 9 months.
Note: Specific financial arrangements apply if you’re 16 or 17 and living independently in London or outside of London.
You must prove you (or your parent) have the money for at least 28 consecutive days. The end date of the 28-day period must be within 31 days of the date you apply for your visa.
- Course Acceptance and CAS:
- Secure an unconditional offer from a licensed Child Student sponsor.
- Obtain a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) from your educational provider.
- Apply for the visa within 6 months of receiving your CAS.
- Required Documentation:
- A current passport or valid travel documentation.
- CAS from your course provider.
- Written consent from your parent or legal guardian.
- Proof of financial capability such as your parents’ bank statements and employment/business documents
