Parent of a Child Student Visa
The Parent of a Child Student visa is for parents of children who have or are applying for a Child Student visa. The Parent of a Child Student visa is a good option for parents who want to accompany their child to the UK while they study. However, it is important to note that there are restrictions on what you can do while in the UK on this visa.
To be eligible for a Parent of a Child Student visa, you must:
- Be the sole parent accompanying your child in the UK.
- Have adequate financial resources to support yourself and your child.
- Maintain your primary residence outside the UK.
- Plan to leave the UK when your visa expires.
Your child must be aged between 4 and 11 and have a Child Student visa. They must also be attending an independent school in the UK.
If you have other children, you can bring them with you if they also have or are applying for a Child Student visa. However, you cannot bring other family members on this visa. They may need to apply for a short-term visit visa.
You can stay in the UK until your child’s visa expires or they turn 12, whichever occurs first. You can extend your visa if you meet the eligibility requirements.
Restrictions on Activities
While in the UK on a Parent of a Child Student visa, you cannot:
- Engage in paid work.
- Pursue studies.
- Start a business.
- Make the UK your main home.
- Apply for benefits or the State Pension.
- Bring other family members with you.
- Switch to a different type of visa.
Financial Requirements
You must demonstrate that you have enough money to support yourself and your child for the duration of your stay. This is calculated as follows:
- £1,560 x (for each month of your stay, up to a maximum of 9 months, for yourself and your child) =£14040.
- An extra £625 x (per month for each additional child accompanying you to the UK, up to 9 months) =£5625.
If you are extending your visa after 12 months in the UK, you do not need to prove financial capability.

When applying for a Parent of a Child Student visa, you must provide the following documents:
